EZ Boundaries

Rural zones are comprised of 1990 census tracts, singly or in groups, and may not exceed 1,000 square miles in size, or 30,000 in population. If the tracts are in groups, the Zone may not exceed three noncontiguous parcels and an additional three developable sites (industrial parks). The Aroostook County Zone includes areas in northern, central, and southern Aroostook, as well as three industrial sites (Loring Commerce Centre, the Van Buren Industrial Park, and the Skyway Industrial Park in Presque Isle).

The Northern Maine Empowerment Council and Northern Maine Development Commission continue to work with Maine’s Congressional delegation to try to change the language of the law so that all of Aroostook County may be included in the zone since the entire county was eligible under the program guidelines.
